Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse follows a simple process, however it isn't exactly easy. The guidelines you must follow are simple, but the determination it takes to succeed, is significant, but very much within your reach. In fact, for every day that you overcome the psychological need to eat, you will feel a increased sense of control that motivates you to complete the diet.
There are three main parts to The Master Cleanse: Easing In, The Lemonade Diet, Easing Off. I will explain each of these in detail and it is very important to stick to these directions as closely as you can. If you read this carefully you shouldn't have too many questions, but of course there is always more to learn about anything, so keep an eye out for any comments made by other readers. If your questions aren't answered there drop me a note via my Contact Us page. I will hopefully add a Master Cleanse FAQ post soon. There are often questions about the precise ingredients required for the The Master Cleanse Recipe, as they can vary a little depending on your experience and requirements.

Easing In - Starting The Master Cleanse

The Pre-diet routine is not as important as the Post-diet Process. In fact, you could drop the easing in phase and begin the diet whenever you are ready. In my experience though, starting the diet with the Pre-diet routine not only prepares your stomach for less food, but it also prepares your mind as well. The first two days of the Diet are not, in my experience, as painful as the rest and therefore the impulse to eat is more manageable.

Day 1 - Take in More Fruits and Vegetables

Quite simply, on day 1 you remove processed foods and meat from your diet.

Day 2 - Switch To Fruit and Vegetable Juice (Optional)

Same food as day one, you just juice it. This step gets your body ready for a liquid diet and delivers the all-important nutrients directly to your bloodstream. If you do not have a juicer, you can make vegetable soup , or just move onto Day 3

Day 3 - Orange Juice

Juice enough oranges to make 2 liters of Orange Juice. Mix with water to taste and add 2 tables spoons Maple Syrup ro give you enough calories to meet your body's basic needs.

The Lemonade Diet

Master Cleanse

Whether you begin The Lemoade Diet immediately or Ease-in, the first day is the same. You will have to make one important adjustment to suit your personal situation at work or home. The key here is timing your daily flush. Perhaps just as important to ending the fast correctly is your daily bowel movements. It is crucial to flush out the toxins your body is eliminating, and since you are not consuming fiber to stimulate a bowel movement, you will have to help it along. There are two preferred methods to help with your bowel movements: Laxative teas and the Salt water flush. I will describe my favourite method in full.

Step 1 - When you wake up prepare your Lemonade drink - this is, after all your main sustenance for the day!

You will need to prepare your daily intake of Lemon Juice, Maple Syrup and Cayenne Pepper. It is better to make the whole days lemonade in one go as you will not feel like messing about once you get further into the diet. You will find that you will soon become quite adept at making the drink up.
The following amounts of each ingredient are needed. These amounts cover all the Lemonade you need to make for 1 day.

" 14 Table Spoons Lemon Juice
" 14 Table Spoons Maple Syrup
" 1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper - or to taste
" 2 Liters/quarts of water

Finally, remember that you need to drink plenty of water during the diet. So, fill a large container with water each morningr, and be prepared to fill it several more times during day. This water will cleanse your palate of the Lemon Juice, as well as giving your stomach the feeling that it is full. You can drink as much water as you want. I tend to drink as much as I can, but like anything, don't over do it.

NB About Pulp in the Lemon Juice;  Many people have told me that adding more of the lemon pulp  to my juice is a good idea. Apparently, this can help remove build up from the intestine and colon. I am still not sure that this is necessary but feel free to experiment.

Step 2 - Drinking or Eating - The Lemonade Diet

This is the main step; in fact it lasts all day. Take your bottles of lemonade and water with you wherever you go. Every time you feel a bit hungry take a slug of Lemonade. Follow it with a few swallows of water. Take enough to make you feel full. The main thing here is not to obsess about the diet, try to carry on with life as normal and remember that all the calories and nutrients that you require for the day are in your lemonade. Make sure that you have drunk all of your ration of lemonade before you go to bed.

Step 3 - Flushing your system with the Salt Water Flush

The Salt Water Flush is a vital component of the diet.  I prefer to do the salt water flush in the evening. The process is perhaps the most unpleasant part of the diet. But it is extremely important so don't skip it!. Once you do the flush, you will have to be a little careful, a bowel movement WILL be on its way very soon. You usually have about 30-60 minutes until the first movement. The last movements will begin to wind down about an hour or so later.
I'll try and describe a little of  what you can expect in a while.
OK so what about the flush itself? Well, use a 1 liter container and mix a solution of Sea Salt and warmish water. Believe me this will work for everyone!  You may have to adjust the amount of salt you use to create the right solution. Also, and this is very important, make sure you don't used Iodized table salt. Organic Sea Salt is required.
Shake the container vigorously and drink it down as quickly as you can. It will be unpleasant but you must do it!  After you have drunk the salt solution, you can go about your life until the inevitable happens.
When you first feel the rumble in your stomach, don't charge straight for the bathroom. Give it a while. You are going to have 3-8 movements. Basically (and rather unpleasantly) you are going to push out what you put in. The entire liter of Sea Salt water will be immediately expelled so don't panic. This is because the solution is indigestible.
Of course along with the sea salt, you will be passing some waste. During the first couple of days you will be passing the remaining solid matter in the digestive tract from the few days previous. If you started your diet immediately this will be more evident  than if you followed the start-up phase, and so have only juice in your system. However, on each day it is likely you will pass solid matter. This may be a little gross but in a sick sort of way it also feels good. You really begin to see that this diet is worth the effort when you realise that the waste being passed has been stored in your body for months, even years.
Once you feel you can hold it no longer, head for the bathroom. A word of warning while you wait for this moment. This is a bit disgusting but whatever you do DO NOT FART!!!. You will most certainly not pass only wind - I'll say no more! Keep this in mind throughout the diet. The first movement will be quite large and powerful.
Stay near the toilet until the frequency eases. Once you can go 10 minutes without a movement, you are safe to get on with your day. This is the main reason I tend to do the flush at night, with nowhere else to go for the rest of the day.
So, basically that's the process. Repeat for each day you are on the cleanse. 3 days is generally the shortest I would recommend for the cleanse. 5 and 7 day sessions are quite common but try to go for 10 days if you can. It's a great achievement and will produce far better results.  Some people go for longer; 14 days is very challenging and when added to the Start up and Ease-out is almost 3 weeks in total.

Easing Out - Stopping The Master Cleanse

The Easing Out process is the exact same as the Easing In, but in reverse. The main reason I tendto do the ease in, is that it prepares me for the ease out. You may be tempted to miss  this step, but don't. Consider this step as CRITICAL. You may feel sick if you start to eat too soon. Please don't underestimate the importance of this process but don't get too scared either - sure you may get a bit of constipation or feel a little sick if  you eat something too soon but nothing more than that.
If you are unsure at any time - consult a doctor. My words here are my opinion only and should always be considered informational not medical advice.
The most important factor to keep in mind during this stage is to drink a lot of water. Especially when you are fruit and vegetable juicing.

The Easing Out Phase is as follows:

" Day 1 - Orange Juice - 3 1-liter orange juice with 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
" Day 2 - Fruit and Vegetable Juice - or Broth
" Day 3 - Fruits and Vegetables
" Day 4 - Regular Diet, however you should try to eat healthily
